David Berry, MD PhD

David Berry, MD PhD, is Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Averin Capital, an early-stage venture capital firm investing in AI and breakthrough technologies transforming human health. A physician, scientist, entrepreneur, and investor, he brings medical and scientific expertise together with experience building and leading companies.

Before co-founding Averin in 2024, David served as a General Partner at Flagship Pioneering, which he joined in 2005. Across his career, he has founded approximately 30 companies and served as CEO of more than 10. His company-building experience spans biotechnology, medicine, agriculture, and technology.

David founded Valo Health and served as its CEO, bringing together artificial intelligence and large-scale human data to advance drug discovery and development.

He earned his MD from Harvard Medical School and his PhD in Biological Engineering from MIT through the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program. He has 16 peer-reviewed publications and holds more than 200 patents and applications.
